Uzma Mirza established this consultancy and practice in 2008 but her experience ranges over a period of 14 years from 1995 to 2007 with experience in three major firms across the United States: Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, Centerbrook Architects & Planners and BSA life Structures. One of the projects she worked on, in which she played a significant design, and technical role, when in tenure with Centerbrook Architects & Planners, in Essex Connecticut, was the Hotchkiss Music & Arts School, in Lakeville Connecticut. It became a LEED certified building, with her initiatives & leadership. It was published in the September 2006 issue of EcoStructures Magazine. Her experience ranges from, residential, commercial and institutional buildings, from schools, public buildings to healthcare.
Intent of AYN Architect
The natural environment and its people in the fabric of society are a vital force to consider in the design of a building. The term sustainability reflects the balance of all forces both natural and human-made in balance, with society and you, as co-existing strategies; as a holistic design integrally part of the design of the built environment. Essentially, sustainability is about balance and harmony with a green approach to building realizing nature, our society and ourself.
Sustainability and Green design is today’s word for the past ‘smart or inventive’ design. Green design is what our great grandparents reflected. However, as our technology today is more complicated, it makes it even more pressing to think green as our waste and our air become the pollution we live and breathe.
Ayn Architect LLC is an Architecture and a Consultancy specializing in Sustainable and Green Design measures. Ayn Architect reviews the design of any building in terms of the site, water use and reuse; materials use, reuse and recycle; the optimization of energy; waste management and indoor air quality.
Ayn Architect has experience in the design and construction process from Schematic design, Design Development, to Construction Documents and Post Construction to Occupancy. Sustainability in each phase is an important development. As a consultancy Ayn Architect specifically focuses on Green design of sustainable measures or the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating system by the US Green Building Council or its equivalent in the world.
Uzma Mirza, the principal Architect with Ayn Architect is a LEED accredited professional. This allows the design of a Green building to be readily LEED compiled and certified. A LEED certification with the US Green Building Council allows Ayn Architect to design a sustainably conscious building following the LEED checklist which analyzes a building based on site, materials, energy, air quality and water, followed by the compiling of all Green strategies and materials used in the design. Ultimately, in Sustainable design, little is better in lieu of bigger is better. Using sustainable measures is not a novel concept in Architecture and construction. It’s the way we used to build: beautifully, economicaly and inventively with nature and a healthy self in mind.
